Local 73 proudly represents roughly 30,000 public service workers in Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
We represent employees of every job description and title.
Our members provide vital services Illinois and Indiana residents rely on.
We care for your children, our seniors and our parents -- and provide a host of other important services to taxpayers in our communities.

We are the Service Employees International Union, an organization of more than 2.2 million members united by the belief in the dignity and worth of workers and the services they provide and dedicated to improving the lives of workers and their families and creating a more just and humane society.

» SEIU is the second largest union of public service employees. SEIU members are fighting for fair and stable funding to ensure that Americans have the quality, reliable public services they need and led victorious public campaigns across the map in 2005. In New Hampshire and California, workers beat back attacks on retirement security, and helped pass a landmark bill in Maryland that would ensure profitable corporations, like Wal-Mart, pay their fair share of their employee's healthcare. SEIU members also helped raise $11.8 billion for public services in 15 states, including a pair of successful ballot initiatives that raised California revenues to maintain emergency centers in Los Angeles and Alameda Counties.

MEMBER POLITICAL ORGANIZERS
What does it mean to be an MPO?
MPOs are SEIU members willing to volunteer to ensure that workers have a voice on the job and a voice in politics.
MPOs take action at the worksite, in our neighborhoods, on the phones, and via e-mail to:
* Educate members and their families
* Register members to vote
* Lobby politicians on our issues
* Raise COPE funds
* Build community coalitions
* Recruit volunteers
* Get out the vote on Election Day
Members are the driving force in SEIU. Winning requires membership involvement at worksites, in the legislatures and city halls, and in organizing campaigns across North America.
Winning means better wages for workers and health benefits for us and our families.
It means laws and policies that respect and reward work, protect seniors, and provide our children wider opportunities.
It means overcoming injustices today and having a say in shaping the future.
America's working families need it. Union members demand it. And SEIU is determined to have it. The best is yet to come.
