Vote YES on HB 1702

The Illinois State Federationof Labor Needs Your Support!

    There are over 1,000 employees on the Illinois Toll Road that carry the risk of death and injury. Yet they are not covered by the alternative pension formula granted to those who perform dangerous jobs. The initial statute covered only some eighteen of the classifications on our highways and the Toll Road. HB 1702 would provide equal treatment for all employees in high-risk positions. All the families of these workers would be better protected should disaster strike. 
    Four unions represent these remaining employees-- Serive Employees International Union Local 73, Teamsters Local 726, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and Sheet Metal Workers Local 73. They have joined together to bring anout pension fairness through the passage of HB 1702. They do so in the name of their members who have been killed or severely injured in the line of duty. Since 2001, three Tollway employees have lost their lives on the job--Howard Collier, Joe Brucci, and Grace Chalko. Another 40 have suffered serious injuries with life-long consequences.
