The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) represents thousands of municipal school district support workers, county workers, and the workers of other governmental bodies. Unfortunately, IMRF recipients are not equal to their fellow public workers in the SURS and SERS pension systems.
There are over 1,000 employees on the Illinois Toll Road that carry the risk of death and injury. Yet they are not covered by the alternative pension formula granted to those who perform dangerous jobs. HB 1702 would provide equal treatment for all employees in high-risk positions.
Agencies at all levels of government in Illinois are seeking to reduce the cost of providing services by contracting with pricate entities. Last year, the Illinois General Assembly enacted legislation establishing safeguards for all school districts engaged in private contracting. HB 4724 would create the same standards and public protections when the State of Illinois pursues private contracts for public service.
