Chicago Public Schools Updates
This school year, the Chicago Public Schools informed us that we were not having any lay offs as in previous years. We have also qualified several Sub Child Welfare Attendants and Bus Aides for health insurance and an attendance incentive of $100. After six months of continuous service, these workers become eligible for the coverage. The attendance incentive is available when a Sub does not refuse more than one assignment during the following periods of four months: December 16th- April 15th; April 16th- August 15th; and August 16th-December 15th.
The union has also won several over time grievance awards and an arbitration case. The combined grievances amount to thousands of dollars for our members. The arbitration involved a member who was denied due process rights during summer school employment.
On several occasions, the union has successfully enforced our contract language, involving seniority rights, jury duty, improper discipline, and many other issues.
Though the union tried to have CPS make it optional, extended pay will continue as it has before.
New Contracts are scheduled to be distributed at the beginning of the new school year.
