City of Chicago Annual Report 2008

Contract Fights

Public Safety Contract (Unit II)

Our City Workers in Unit II have been bargaining their contract since July of 2007. Our members demand that they receive the fair contract they deserve, including: compensation for lost pay, just and fair working conditions, upgrades, etc. Our members demonstrated twice last year, on June 25 and September 11, against the City of Chicago. These members, which include Crossing Guards, Detention Aides, Traffic Control Aides, Parking Enforcement Aides, Aviation Police, and Animal Control Officers, protect the public every day. They demand the respect that they deserve, and the fair compensation that comes along with that.

Employee Representation and Bargaining

Custodians

Our custodial members in the City of Chicago, including O'Hare General Services Water Management, ratified a

historic contract this year. The ten year agreement includes retroactive pay back to July 1, 2007, and stronger language for cost containment and savings regarding health care costs.

Aviation Police

Four of our members from the Aviation Police were wrongfully terminated. After ten months, each of them were reinstated with full back pay and benefits. Congratulations to our members on their victory!
