Local 73, Stroger step up fight to save jobs, services in county hospitals system

Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is joining the protest over planned layoffs within the county health and hospitals system.
Stroger, along with SEIU Local 73 and other unions representing the workers, condemn the move saying it threatens core health services for families across Cook County.
Last week, the new board that now runs the hospital system announced 700 vacant and 335 support staff and non-clinical care positions would be eliminated in January. The board called it a "staff rebalancing effort".      Stroger says it is just an attempt to break the unions.
"We can not allow and will not allow the board to pay millions of dollars to outside consultants have them come in and tell us you don't need this, just downsize, be small be like the private hospitals. We don't want to be like the private hospitals," said Stroger.
