Laid-off school custodians erected an inflatable rat in front of the Gary Area Career Center and marched around it chanting, "You eat steak, We eat baloney," prior to Tuesday night's school board meeting.

confronts Gary school board over layoffs

     Outrage over the layoffs of 41 Gary school custodians on November 1st dominated the discussion at Tuesday's meeting of the Gary Board of School Trustees.

Key lawmaker supports the Employee Free Choice Act

SEIU Local 73 Northwest Indiana played host to a leading voice in Congress recently to press him to support the Employee Free Choice Act.
Sen. Evan Bayh (D-Ind.) visited our union's offices in Gary on May 27 and expressed his "total support" for the legislation.
