District U-46

Our job posting grievance was resolved prior to arbitration. The District will show all postings to the Chief Steward and Steward at each school. They will sign and date the postings so that members can have the required time to add their name to the posting if they so choose. In addition, the District will add the starting and ending times so that members can make an informed decision on whether or not to apply for a transfer. We also resolved a grievance involving the filling of an absence by a specific school rotation schedule.

District 140

The District was having our members, on a voluntary basis, sign an agreement that if they chose to be off near Christams and New Years that they could be paid holiday benefits in accordance with our contract. What the District did not tell our members, or the Union, is that this was a 'permanent' decision for the duration of the time you worked at the District and could not be reversed after signing this document.
The District clearly violated labor laws when they began to bargain wages, hours and conditions of employment with the members. The issue has since been resolved.
The volunteer time off will be offered annually so that you have a choice year to year if you so choose this time off. In addition, this is a mandatory subject of bargaining that must be presented to a Local 73 representative.

Ford Heights School District 169

A grievance was filed on the Reduction in Staff (RIF) and as a result, the District is now offering an Early Retirement Incentive program (ERI). The District also agreed to provide health insurance for several months for the workers affected by the RIF.

East Aurora School District 131

The contract negotiation was concluded and then ratified by the membership. The pact will guarantee our members' salary increases and gains in benefits. Special thanks to all on the bargaining committee.

Head Start

Washington has authorized a funding increase in the cost-of-living adjustment for workers. We will report the adjustment in our next update.

Morton High School District 201

Members agreed to a new five-year contract. Salaries will grow by two percent a year for the next five years and there will be no layoffs during that time span. Thanks to Larry Simulis, Joe Florio, and John Lopez.

Lyons School District 103

Teachers aides settled their first ever contract. It's a four-year deal with a seven percent increase retroactive to September 2008, a five percent increase in the third year of the agreement and a four percent increase in the final year. Members also will receive increases in health insurance, a life insurance policy and a bereavement leave. Thanks to committee people Chris Kosinsky, Pam Stano, Tina Melendez, Cindy Slad, and Kim Ulloa for their time and effort.

Contracts are still pending in Hazel Crest Park District, the City of Braidwood, and Ottawa Township High School.
